The application relates to a method of operating a hybrid transmission (34) having two electric machines (56, 62) and two or more planetary gear sets (36, 38, 40). The method provides to control the transmission (34) according to a drive mode, which includes a continuously variable speed relationship, and also to control the transmission (34) according to automatic and manual more or less fixed speed relationships modes. Said modes include a plurality of mechanical gear ratios (MGl, MG3, MG5, MG7) obtained using couplings (Cl, C2,. C3, C4) and virtual gear ratios (VG2, VG4, VG6) inbetween. The driver may request for transmission operation in one of an Economy or a Sport mode, and the transmission is then operated in the requested Economy or Sport mode. The object is to enhance the driver's impression of vehicle behaviour. |
