Use of organophilic clay as a dispersant in the preparation of self-gelling mask compositions for cosmetic purposes, is claimed. An independent claim is included for the self-gelling mask composition comprising alginate, calcium source, calcium sequestering agent and dispersing agent of alginate, where the dispersing agent is an organophilic clay.
