PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dissolve a fault to generate jamming of a paper money caused by reversely conveying a paper money having Z-folded habit for return after conveying it to a downstream side of a pull out prevention lever in a paper money processing apparatus including a function for returning the paper money having the Z-folded habit to an insertion opening by reversing the motion of a conveying member as an abnormal paper money, and a pull out prevention lever for preventing an incorrect pull out action. SOLUTION: Existence of the Z-folded habit is determined based on scan data obtained from a plurality of existing paper money identification sensors 30, then an operation for return is made to be immediately started (before a portion of the Z-folded habit reaches to the pull out prevention lever 35) when the Z-folded habit is determined as existing.
