<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a necessary time for monitoring in a monitoring device for monitoring an operating state of an arithmetic unit, and to provide an electronic control device provided with a monitoring device capable of reducing the necessary time for monitoring. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the monitoring device 20, every time when answer signal is input from a control microcomputer 11, checkers 30A and B to which the answer signal is alternately input compare an answer number in the answer signal with a correct answer signal of a corresponding number preliminarily supplied to the control microcomputer 11. A homework number reflecting the comparison results is generated as a next number, and supplied to a serial communication part 21 through a number selection part 23. The serial communication part 21 outputs, upon acquisition of the answer signal from the control microcomputer 11, a homework signal including the homework signal (next number) supplied from the number selection part 23 to the control microcomputer 11 to cause the control microcomputer 11 execute an operation corresponding to the next number, and further acquires the answer signal, thereby the cycle is repetitively executed.
