The lighting unit i.e. headlight (20), has a housing (22) associated with a holding unit (24) for holding the lighting unit. The holding unit is directly fixed to a longitudinal chassis beam (28) for a body of a motor vehicle. The holding unit has two holding parts (26, 30) that are integrally formed with the housing. The holding part (30) is fixed to the body by additional holders (32). A hood lock is integrated in the housing. The housing has a support area (34) that is supported in an area of a main chassis beam (36).
