PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image corresponding to a specific part of the brain from an image obtained as a magnetic resonance image for an imaging region containing a specific part of the subject such as the brain. SOLUTION: A magnetic resonance image IG is generated for an imaging region including the brain of a subject. When carrying out segmentation of the magnetic resonance image using a mask image IM to obtain an image IGS corresponding to the brain, figures Z1, Z2 and Z3 in which pixel values of "0" are connected are extracted from a binary image IB of the magnetic resonance image IG. Pixel values of the figures are then converted from "0" to "1" in the binary image IB on the basis of the number of pixels composing the figures Z1, Z2 and Z3 to generate the mask image IM.
