The invention relates to a method and apparatus for treating liquid manure or bio- gas plant reject (subsequently a slurry type matter) biologically for the removal of odor and/or the removal of nitrogen. In a supply tank (3) is performed the separation of coarse matter by sedimentation and/or by a sieve. From the supply tank (3), the slurry type matter is fed through three or more series-connected bioreactor tanks (5).
