<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of holding a predetermined gap excellently between substrates in an FFS (fringe field switch) system easily causing a spacer to fall into a contact hole. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 100 has a first substrate 10 and a second substrate 20 and drives liquid crystal molecules by an electric field generated between a first electrode 11 and a second electrode 17 provided on the first substrate 10. The first substrate 10 has switching elements arranged for every pixel; insulating films 25, 27 provided on the switching elements; and the contact hole 12 electrically connecting one of the first electrode 11 and second electrode 17 to a drain electrode 7 of the switching element. The second substrate 20 has a first spacer P1 corresponding to the drain electrode 7 between the contact hole 12 and a semiconductor layer 4 in at least one of the pixels G, and a second spacer P2 corresponding to a different position from the first spacer P1 in the drain electrode 7 in a plan view state.
