PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a travel control system for automatically passing a preceding vehicle without frightening or giving discomfort to a driver of one's own vehicle or a vehicle around it. SOLUTION: This travel control system 100 controlling travel speed of the own vehicle V to keep an inter-vehicle distance between the own vehicle V and the preceding vehicle P at a prescribed distance has: a means 11 for deciding whether or not it is proper for the own vehicle V to pass the preceding vehicle P based on traveling states of the own vehicle V and the preceding vehicle P; a passing preparation operation execution means 12 executing an operation for preparing the passing when deciding that it is proper for the preceding vehicle P to pass the preceding vehicle; a passing decision means 13 deciding whether the own vehicle V can pass the preceding vehicle P based on traveling environment and the traveling states of the own vehicle V and the preceding vehicle P; and a passing means 14 executing the passing when deciding that the preceding vehicle P can be passed.
