<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structural color coating film-forming coating composition capable of easily and inexpensively forming a structural color coating film. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The structural color coating film-forming coating composition contains core-shell particles 10. In this composition, the shell part 3 includes a carboxyl-bearing resin which is noncrosslinked and either fusible by drying the resultant coating film or fluidizable by heating; while the core part 1 is a monodispersed one, 0.1-1 μm in average particle size, and neither deformable nor fluidizable by drying the resultant coating film or heating; wherein the refractive index difference between the shell part and the core part is 0.01 or greater, and the shell part accounts for 30-85 wt.% of the core-shell particles. This composition is subjected to coating, and by drying or heating the resultant coating film, the shell part is fused or fluidized to effect a coating film, and the core parts are regularly arranged in the coating film formed by the shell part and the regular arrangement of the core part presents a structural color.
