PURPOSE: A method controlling the operation of an application and a terminal for the same capable of efficiently protecting the vision of a user are provided to protect the vision of the user efficiently and control the operation of the application by recognizing the movement of the user. CONSTITUTION: A terminal(100) controlling the operation of an application includes a distance calculator(110), a determining unit(120), a control message generating unit(150), and a controller(180). The distance calculator produces a distance between the terminal and a user. The determining unit determines whether to maintain the calculated distance. The controller controls the operation of the application corresponding to the generated operation control message.
