The method involves blocking turbocharging of an internal combustion engine (10) by a compressor of a turbocharger (14) using a throttle valve (40) in a transition phase, while gradually increasing compression pressure of the turbocharger in a manner to overtake compression pressure of another turbocharger (12). The turbocharging of the engine is unblocked by the compressor of the turbocharger (14) when pressure of the turbocharger (14) reaches predetermined threshold compression pressure, while continuing to increase the compression pressure of the turbocharger (14). An independent claim is also included for a device for turbocharging an internal combustion engine.
