<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel cord obtained by twisting a plurality of side strands having 4 to 27 twisted steel wires around a core strand having 4-27 twisted steel wires, which has a maximized braking strength (breaking load) thereof, ensuring its own breaking strength (breaking load) to be enhanced to the utmost. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The steel cord is constituted such that its own breaking elongation is increased without decreasing its own breaking strength (breaking load) by such means as reduced twisting pitch of the core strand, thereby ensuring the core strand's breaking elongation to be made higher than those of the side strands and the breaking load of the core strand to be equal to or higher than those of the side strands.
