摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding wheel capable of highly accurate detection of a wear process of an abrasive layer. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The grinding wheel 60 for grinding a workpiece by a grinding surface 62a of the abrasive layer 62 is structured to be capable of detecting the wear process of the abrasive layer by forming the abrasive layer so that a nature of the grinding surface varies depending on a thickness in a grinding direction of the abrasive layer. Thus, by detecting a change in the nature of the grinding surface of the abrasive layer every truing for example, the wear process of the abrasive layer can be detected to accurately correct the thickness in the grinding direction of the abrasive layer. Therefore, the leading edge position of grinding by the grinding wheel can be always correctly obtained. Thus, after the grinding wheel is changed over from fast feed speed to grinding feed speed, an air cut quantity can be reduced until starting to grind so as to shorten grinding time.
