PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a skin-lightening cosmetic, especially skin lotion, containing a salicylic acid derivative, and giving a sense of use without producing stickiness and creaking. SOLUTION: A liquid cosmetic, especially skin lotion, contains (a) 0.1 to 5 mass% of an alkoxysalicylic acid derivative or its salt, (b) 0.01 to 3 mass% of an oil, (c) 0.01 to 10 mass% of a hydrophilic surfactant and/or a polyglycerol-based surfactant, and (d) 0.01 to 30 mass% of one or more compounds selected from ethanol, 0-6C polyhydric alcohols having two or three hydroxyl groups, polyalkylene glycols having average molecular weights of 500 to 2,000, sugar alcohols and their derivatives, characterized by having an average emulsion particle diameter of 10 to 500 nm.
