PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To strike a balance between an in-field synchronous type electronic shutter and a rolling electronic shutter. SOLUTION: A method of driving a solid-state imaging device having a plurality of pixels arrayed in the shape of matrix includes a photoelectric conversion element effecting the photoelectric conversion of incident light, a first forwarder for connecting the photoelectric conversion element to a storage unit for storing electric charge, a second forwarder whose potential with respect to the charge accumulated in the storage unit is lower than the potential of the first forwarder and which connects the storage unit to a suspended diffusion unit, a resetting unit for connecting the suspended diffusion unit to an electric power supply and a third forwarder for connecting the photoelectric conversion element to the electric power supply to effect a first driving mode, wherein starting and ending operations for accumulating the charge in the pixels are set in common in the plurality of pixels, and a second driving mode, wherein starting and ending operations for accumulating charge in the pixels are set in common for each row of the pixels.
