<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traffic volume measuring device which detects only the tail lamps with high degree of accuracy, avoiding misdetections of lights other than tail lamps such as upper lights of large vehicles. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The traffic volume measuring device includes: a tail lamp candidate detecting means 2, which extracts a candidate area of a tail lamp by extracting a red area in an image; a vehicle tail end detecting means 3 which detects the tail end of a vehicle; a vehicle-registering means which registers an area used for tracking a vehicle from the detected tail end of vehicle; a vehicle-tracking means 5 which tracks a registered area by pattern matching.
