<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of unevenness in image data of the whole original manuscript combining line data while using line data generated during acceleration and deceleration. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Each time a line start signal is input, a line sensor of this image scanner stores and retains information related to charges accumulated in a photo detector in a shift resistor as pixel data, and resets the photo detector to start a next power storage operation. The line start signal is periodically input into the line sensor. A scanning front end calculates an amount L of transportation of an object to be transported (the line sensor) and an ideal amount R of transportation which is necessary for the object to be transported to reach an ideal scan starting point (S740 and S745) of the next line, and selectively outputs line data which indicates the scanning results near the ideal scan starting point out of line data (pixel data for one line) transferred from the line sensor each time the line start signal is input based on the relationship between the amount L of transportation and the ideal amount R of transportation (S780, S781).
