<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive electrode member for a cold cathode, which ensures its airtight sealability with a soft glass and prevents the occurrence of leak in a sealing part by suppressing a reaction with mercury, and to provide a cold cathode discharge lamp using the electrode member. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The electrode member 5 for a cold cathode includes a copper-free sealing lead wire 7, which has a core wire 10 made of an alloy mainly composed of iron and nickel while having 50-52% of a nickel-component content, a cold cathode 8 connected to one end of the sealing lead wire 7, and an external lead wire 9 connected to the other end of the sealing lead wire 7.
