<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small PLC type variable dispersion compensator capable of inexpensively achieving increase of a variable dispersion amount at low loss and low ripple. <P>SOLUTION: The PLC type variable dispersion compensator 10 includes a multistage Mach-Zehnder interferometer comprising phase shifters 101-125 multiply connected in twenty five stages on a planar light wave circuit 11, and twenty four variable couplers 201-224 connected between the phase shifters. A binding fraction of each variable coupler is changed to obtain dispersion variable characteristics. Two delay lines of the phase shifter 113 of a loopback part is crossed and looped back such that a longer delay line of the thirteenth phase shifter 113 and a shorter delay line of a fourteenth phase shifter 114 are respectively connected via the variable coupler 213, and a shorter delay line of the thirteenth phase shifter 113 and a longer delay line of the phase shifter of the fourteenth phase shifter 114 are respectively connected via the variable coupler 213. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
