<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of uniformity of images and generation of a pattern peculiar to the error diffusion method while suppressing increase of a number of processing steps and increase of throughput when performing image processing by the error diffusion method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: a repulsive force generating section 27 for setting repulsive force values RVa and RVu of a quantized pixel according to an output pixel value of the quantized pixel; a repulsive force calculating section 22 for calculating an attenuated value of the repulsive forces RVa, RVu established for the quantized pixel according to the distance between the quantized pixel and the quantization-target pixel as a repulsive force value RVC to be used in quantizing the quantization-target pixel; and a threshold-correcting section 23 for correcting a threshold T, which is used in quantizing the quantization-target pixel according to the repulsive force value RVC.
