PURPOSE: A data encoding/decoding method, a data detecting method, and a data recording/reproducing apparatus and method are provided to achieve smooth recording and reproduction of data by reducing intersymbol interference. CONSTITUTION: A data encoding/decoding method converts multiple input codes of n bits into multiple block codes. The block codes include a first block group including multiple bits and a second block group including at least one bit. When the number of 0 and 1 combinations included in the first block group is multiplied by the number of possible codes of the second block group, the value is greater than the number of possible input codes.
