<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of charging coal to a coke oven which can fully equalize the coke strength over the width direction of the carbonization chamber when it is premised that, when the coal is charged into the carbonization chamber of the coke oven, an additive to increase the bulk density of the coal and the strength of the coke is injected, and to provide a coal charging apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the stage that coal is highly whirling immediately after being injected by the table feeder 21 into the feeder chute 26, the coal is struck against the spherical body 41 as a flow rectifying means and rectified. Thereby, after the coal is made to drop straight and uniformly through the feeder chute 26 and the sleeve 27, the additive is supplied from the additive supply nozzle 32 on only the coal supplied in the vicinity of the center part of the width direction of the carbonization chamber.
