<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based ballpoint pen having wide practicability and obtaining good writing performance by incorporating ink containing a specific compound for chemically removing gas in the ink in a ballpoint pen having a structure in which a liquid plug is filled at the rear end of the ink. <P>SOLUTION: The water-based ballpoint pen incorporates a water-based ink composition containing a colorant, water, a monomer or an oligomer of 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole, and has an ink back flow-preventing body following the consumption of the ink at the rear end of the ink with close contact.
