PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for production of hollow particles can retain a hollow shape without decay of the shell thereof even at a high temperature of 200°C or higher. SOLUTION: The invention relates to a production method of hollow particles having a volume-average particle diameter of 0.1μm to 1 mm in which a shell constituting the hollow particle includes one type or more types of layers and the outermost layer of the layers is a layer composed of a polyimide. The production method includes: mixing and stirring a dispersion in which in a polyamic acid solution, fine particles composed of another material are dispersed with a dispersion in which hydrophobic fine particles are dispersed to produce a dispersion of composite particles in which the surface of fine particles is coated with polyamic acid; separating the composite particles; subjecting the composite particles to an imidation reaction in a hydrophobic solvent to prepare a dispersion of hollow particles having the outermost layer of a polyimide; and separating the hollow particles to retrieve them.
