<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring element for a magnetic recording head, which makes it possible to know the form of a magnetic pole without destroying the element. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The monitoring element 30 for a magnetic recording head is formed on a workpiece for magnetic recording heads on which element magnetic poles 10 of the magnetic recording heads are formed. The monitoring element includes a monitoring magnetic pole 32 formed of the same material and in the same form as the element magnetic poles 10 and monitoring terminals 34a to 34d that are electrically connected to the monitoring magnetic pole 32.
