CHIMERIC ANTI-MEASLES ANTIBODY

Measles IgM positive sera are required for quality control (Positive controls in serology kits) and quality assurance (external quality assurance or proficiency testing panels) purposes. However, a consistent supply of measles IgM positive sera is increasingly difficult to obtain due to effective vaccination programs. Described herein is a chimeric monoclonal IgM antibody for measles that can be used for quality assurance/quality control purposes. Measles specific IgM chimeric antibodies were generated from the light- and heavy-chain variable-region genes cloned from hybridomas and inserted into expression vectors containing human kappa and IgM constant region. The data demonstrate that a synthesized chimeric mouse-human IgM antibody can be used as a positive control for measles diagnostic tests and proficiency panels.
