摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for correctly sensing a depth of a transverse fissure occurring on a rail head. SOLUTION: The rail flaw inspection apparatus 1 includes: a slider 10 upwardly biased relative to the rail 100; an arm 20 provided in the slider 10 so as to be turned around the longitudinal axis of the rail; and an ultrasonic probe 50 attached to a tip of the arm 20 so as to be moved in the longitudinal direction of the rail. When the arm 20 is turned toward the rail and engaged with a rail upper neck 100c, the ultrasonic probe 50 abuts on the rail upper neck 100c and/or a head lower surface. Ultrasonic waves enter from the ultrasonic probe 50 to a rail wheel tread 100b. A flaw is inspected from a reflection echo. Since the ultrasonic waves are irradiated from the head lower surface to the wheel tread, the ultrasonic waves are irradiated to the transverse fissure existing under a horizontal fissure.
