TOXIC SUBSTANCE TREATMENT METHOD AND DEVICE FOR TREATMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus which can be suitably used for detoxifying a toxic substance in a gas inexpensively without adding a reducing agent.

SOLUTION: The toxic substance treatment device 1 is provided with a gas passing part 2 to which the gas is supplied, a photocatalyst filter 3 (photocatalyst member) which is brought into contact with the gas supplied within the gas passing part 2 and a light source 5 which irradiates the lights required for excitation of the photocatalyst included in the photocatalyst filter 3 to the photocatalyst filter 3. The photocatalyst filter 3 contains the photocatalyst having a metal, metal oxide or metal hydroxide with higher redox potential than that of the toxic substance included in the gas supported. When the toxic substance is nitrogen dioxide, the metal or metal oxide that is supported on the photocatalyst is copper or copper oxide. The photocatalyst is a titanium oxide photocatalyst.
