<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the quantity of a material of a discharge electrode being used, while having a high characteristic as an overvoltage protection component, by effectively using the material for forming the discharge electrode of the overvoltage protection component. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This overvoltage protection component is provided with a first discharge electrode 2 and a second discharge electrode 3 mutually opposed via a discharge part 4 formed inside a base body 1, and is provided by increasing the area of a first effective electrode part 5 more than the area of a second effective electrode part 6, in the first effective electrode part 5 and the second effective electrode part 6 being an area of contacting with the discharge part 4 in respective opposed surfaces.
