A rotary compressor is provided with: a first cylinder (8) which is disposed within a casing and has a compression chamber which compresses a refrigerant; a first piston (12) which is disposed within the first cylinder (8) and is a compression member which compresses the refrigerant that is inside the compression chamber; and a drive mechanism which is disposed within the casing (2) and drives the first piston (12). A first length (L1), which is the length of at least one of the bevels (121, 122) of the first piston (12) in a direction along planar sections (123, 124), is made larger than a second length (L2), which is the thickness of the piston. An equivalent length relationship may also be applied to bevels (81, 82) on the first cylinder (8) side.
