PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct a set position by usual operation in association with drawing of a roll-shaped recording medium even when the set position of the roll-shaped recording medium is deviated. SOLUTION: A transport device 1 for the roll-shaped recording medium includes roll retainers 5R, 5L attached to both sides of a roll portion 31, spindles 4R, 4L for supporting the roll portion 31, spindle holders 61R, 61L integrated with the spindles 4R, 4L for transmitting the rotation to the roll portion 31, a spindle motor 30 for rotating the spindles 4R, 4L forward and backward, and a moving mechanism 65 for moving the roll-shaped recording medium P. The transport device is provided with a positioning mechanism portion 60 which executes the positioning of the reference edge E of the roll-shaped recording medium P by relatively rotating the roll portion 31 to the direction X in which tension is applied after the roll-shaped recording medium P is set to a roll holder H by using the moving mechanism 65.
