摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remedy deterioration of a contrast ratio and decrease in the number of addressable grayscale levels. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Each pixel includes a pixel electrode and a liquid crystal capacitor pinched between the pixel electrode and a common electrode for applying a common signal. 1080 scanning lines are divided into four groups for each of 270 lines and the common electrodes are divided into four corresponding to each group, and the common signal of either of the voltage V<SB>CL</SB>orthe voltage V<SB>CH</SB>is supplied for each common electrode corresponding to each group. One field of the pixel positioned in each scan line is divided into sub-fields sf0 to sf4. Although an ON or OFF voltage is applied in sub-fields sf1 to sf4 according to the grayscale, the OFF voltage is applied irrelevant of the grayscale in the sub-field sf0. A common signal supply circuit switches a voltage of the common electrode that corresponds to the group, for which application of the OFF voltage in the sub-field sf0 ends.
