PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk unit for improving reliability in data restoration, when a loss occurs in data recorded in an optical disk for recording data in multiple layers. SOLUTION: The optical disk unit includes a sub-data generator unit for generating, from the data recorded on an optical disk 3, element data constituting the data concerned, and for generating a plurality of sub-data 42a/42b/42c constituted of restoration data to restore the data when the element data becomes unreadable, and a recording position decision unit for deciding the recording position of each sub-data. The recording position decision unit decides the recording position so that the sub-data do not mutually overlap in a projection plane when the optical disk is seen from a light radiation direction.
