The invention relates to a method for preparing functionalized organo-silica compounds, including at least one azo-activated unit, of formula (I): said method consists of: A. reacting at least one silane precursor (IV): with at least one hydrazo-precursor derivative (V): to obtain products of formula (II): precursors of compounds (I): B. and of oxidizing the hydrazine group of precursors (II) in the azo group to obtain precursors of compounds(I), using an oxidizer (NaOCl) and a base (NaOH), said oxidation taking place in a biphase aqueous/organic medium, with the pH of the aqueous phase being between 3 and 11; oxidation B being carried out directly in the reaction medium obtained from step A and containing precursors (II), without isolating said precursors.
