<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing system, a method of controlling a printer, a printer, and a printer control program can print image data in an external memory connected to the printer, by designating the data from a host device. <P>SOLUTION: At the host device, the image data stored in an external memory is displayed to the user, and the printer is notified of the directory in the external memory of the image data selected by the user.
