Abrasive cutting fluids

A method of forming an abrasive cutting fluid comprising entraining a pre-mix slurry of particles of an abrasive, water and a thickener in a carrier fluid. The thickener may be a flocculent or suspension agent e.g. a long chain polymer. The carrier fluid may also comprise a thickener. The concentration of the thickener in the pre-mix slurry is greater than the recommended concentration. Also shown is an apparatus for forming an abrasive cutting fluid and a pre-mix slurry composition. The abrasive cutting fluid is especially used for underwater cutting in particular for the severing of abandoned subsea wellheads from casing strings.
