<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for making coke by which, when coke is made using water content-adjusted coal, the growth of carbon deposited on a charging hole is suppressed without decreasing productivity of coke. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for making coke is characterized in that coal which is a raw material of coke is crushed in 2 and dried in 3 to obtain small-diameter coal having a low water content, the small-diameter coal is mixed with large-diameter coal 6 having a diameter of 20-100 mm, and the mixture is charged into a coke oven 4 and coked. The large-diameter coal is preferably briquettes formed by pressing coal powder and a mixing rate of the large-diameter coal is preferably 3-30 mass% of the entire coal charged into the coke oven.
