<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and method capable of reducing noise without reducing sharpness with respect to linear shade buried in noise. <P>SOLUTION: This image processing apparatus consists of: a smoothed value calculation section 11 that calculates smoothed values, or outputs of smoothing filters, of respective pixels respectively by applying a plurality of the smoothing filters (f) having smoothing operation in different directions with respect to respective pixels of an X-ray image; a smoothing section 12 that records a minimum or maximum smoothed value in smoothed values of each smoothing filter in each pixel as a pixel value of each pixel; a running orientation detection section 13 that records an orientation of smoothing of the smoothing filter as the running orientation of each pixel based on a smoothed value of each smoothing filter; and high frequency enhancing section 14 that enhances the high frequency orthogonal to the running orientation of each pixel recorded in the running orientation detection section 13 and records the calculated high frequency enhanced value as a pixel vale of each pixel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
