PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic developing method for a lithographic printing plate, by which a high-quality lithographic printing plate can be produced and a user of any scale can replace a developer solution with 100% exhausted processing ability within a given period, upon using an automatic developing apparatus. SOLUTION: The automatic developing method is provided for the lithographic printing plate, in which an imagewise exposed lithographic printing plate precursor 4 is dipped in a development tank 20 filled with a developer to remove an unnecessary part of the lithographic printing plate 4. In the method, the developer is circulated between the development tank 20 constituting a process path line and an external tank 55 provided outside the process path line, so as to maintain a liquid level of the development tank 20 constant, and when the entire developer in both of the development tank 20 and the external tank 55 is 100% exhausted, only the developer in the external tank 55 is replaced, and the developing process is continued.
