<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing a racemic form or an optically active form of an amino alcohol expressed by formula I, starting from 2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-3-one, a method for converting the above to a corresponding acyl derivative and a method for further converting the acyl derivative to its (1S, 4R)- or (1R, 4S)-4-(2-amino-6-chloro-9-H-purin-9-yl)-2-cyclopentenyl-1-methanol. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the synthesis of the latter, the amino alcohol is converted to a corresponding D- or L-tartaric acid salt, then it is reacted with N-(2-amino-4,6-dichloropyrimidin-5-yl)formamide to make (1S, 4R)- or (1R, 4S)-4-[(2-amino-6-chloro-5-formamide-4-pyrimidinyl)amino]-2-cyclopentenyl-1-methanol.
