PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set an area under monitoring in fine detail, according to the width of an opening section or the mounting height of a sensor using only with simple operations, or operations of a setting section. SOLUTION: Light-emitting elements 14a to 14d emit lights in a cyclical manner, and lenses 16a to 16d deflect the emitted light, in a direction perpendicular to the opening width direction of a door. The emitted light is received by light-receiving elements 22a1 to 22a9 and 22b1 to 22b9 via multisplit lenses 24a, 24b. The setting section 44 sets whether each light-emitting element is allowed to emit light for each light-emitting element. A control section 30 determines whether a person or object is present or absent within the area under monitoring from the reception conditions of the light-receiving elements.
