PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery excellent in charge and discharge characteristics, wherein normal temperature molten salt is contained in a nonaqueous electrolyte. SOLUTION: In this nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery equipped with a positive electrode containing a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode containing a negative electrode active material, and a nonaqueous electrolyte containing room temperature molten salt, after injecting the nonaqueous electrolyte, the potential of the negative electrode is swept to a potential by which the cations of the normal temperature molten salt is reduced and decomposed by potential scanning before first time charging.
