PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-reliability cylindrical battery in which a gas is surely discharged even when it is brought into an accidental abnormal condition, and the flow of gas discharge from an end wall side to an opening end side is blocked in an armoring can. SOLUTION: This cylindrical battery is provided with a cylindrical metallic battery case 2 having the opening end at one end and the end wall at the other end. Safety valves are respectively arranged on both the opening end and the end wall 3 of the battery case 2. The safety valve on the end wall 3 side includes: a first recessed part 24 and a second recessed part 28 located in the first recessed part 24 and having a bottom wall with a gas-vent hole 30 opened, both of which are formed integrally with the end wall 3 of the battery case 2; a valve element 32 arranged in the second recessed part 28; and a plate-shaped valve element cover 26 arranged in the first recessed part 24 for pressing the valve element 32 against the bottom wall of the second recessed part 28.
