<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and accurately measure a coefficient of static friction between two members. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The apparatus 20 for inspecting a coefficient of static friction tilts an inspection table 26 at a specified tilt angle θ from a horizontal state by an inspection table driving means 34, such that a tilt direction component of a gravity force applied on a plunger 24 which is inserted through a guide pipe 22 fixed to the inspection table 26 by a fixing means 32, exceeds a static friction force against the guide pipe 22. A load of the plunger 24 is given to a load measuring means 30 fixed to the inspection table 26 with the plunger 24 brought into contact with the load measuring means, and a coefficient of static friction between the guide pipe and plunger is inspected based on a load measured by the load measuring means at this point. In this case, a time needed to inspect a coefficient of static friction is reduced by tilting the inspection table 26 at the specified tilt angle θ from a horizontal state as fast as possible within a range of an inertial force caused by changing a tilt angle of the inspection table 26 having no effect.
