A separation membrane module comprises a module main body (11), an upper horizontal partition plate (21) provided to form an upper fluid passage (22) at an upper part in the module main body (11), a lower horizontal partition plate (23) provided to form a lower fluid passage (24) at a lower part in the module main body (11), a plurality of vertical fluid pipes (13) stretching between the upper horizontal partition plate (21) and the lower horizontal partition plate (23), and a vertical tubular membrane separation member (12) inserted into each fluid pipe (13) with a clearance. The clearance between each fluid pipe (13) and the membrane separation member (12) inserted into the fluid pipe (13) has the upper end communicating with the upper fluid passage (22) and the lower end communicating with the lower fluid passage (24). Each membrane separation member (12) has the upper end opening to the outside of the module main body (11) and the lower end closed. A vertical partition plate (28) is provided to form an inlet chamber (22A) and an outlet chamber (22B) in any one of the upper fluid passage (22) or the lower fluid passage (24).
