<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a gas barrier film exhibiting high gas barrier performance and having flexibility equal to that of a conventional material, and to provide the gas barrier film obtained by the manufacturing method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the gas barrier film is provided with: a smooth layer laminating step of laminating a smooth layer on the surface of a plastic film to be base material; a first inorganic layer laminating step of laminating a first inorganic layer having gas barrier performance on the smooth layer finished in the smooth layer laminating step; an intermediate layer laminating step of laminating an intermediate layer to improve interlayer adhesiveness on the surface of the first inorganic layer finished in the first inorganic layer laminating step; and a second inorganic layer laminating step of laminating a second inorganic layer provided with a gas barrier layer on the surface of the intermediate layer finished n the intermediate layer laminating step.
