The device i.e. shredder/pressing unit (10), has a shredder (12) for shredding solids such as metal, wood or plastic wastes, in a particle material and a briquetting press (14) for compressing the particle material, where the shredder and the press are formed as a structural unit and arranged at a common frame. The shredder and the press comprise a common energy supply, a drive device (18), a conveying device (36) and a control device that provides synchronized operation of the shredder and the press. The device (36) connects an outlet of the shredder with an inlet of the press.
