Test equipment has a failure block memory for storing, in correspondence to each block of a memory under test, a plurality of pieces of failure information each indicating whether a failure has occurred in a relevant block or not. The test equipment writes a sequence of test data into a tested page of a memory under test, reads the sequence of test data written into the tested page, and compares the sequence of read data with the sequence of written data. The test equipment also has an assignment register for storing assignment information used for setting which of a plurality of failure conditions is assigned to each of the plurality of pieces of failure information. The failure conditions are used for determining whether a failure has occurred in the tested page or not. The test equipment then detects whether a failure corresponding to each of the failure conditions has occurred or not, outputs the detected result as a failure signal, and updates each of the plurality of pieces of failure information, corresponding to a block including the tested page, according to the failure signal corresponding to the assigned failure condition.
