<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector configured so that an image suitable to a situation of a projecting area can be observed, and to provide an image display method of the projector. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Regarding the projector 1, when a first recognition key 22b is operated, an operation of imaging a projecting screen S is performed by an imaging part 23. Thereafter, when a second recognition key 22c is operated, the operation of imaging the screen S is performed by the imaging part 23 again, and a situation change of the projecting area Ap when the second recognition key 22c is operated from that when the first recognition key 22b is operated is recognized. Consequently, for example, a bulletin material put on the projecting screen S is recognized. Thereafter, a control part 20 generates mask information showing an area occupied by the bulletin material in a projection image Gp, and outputs the mask information to an image processing part 27. The image processing part 27 corrects image information so that the area shown by the mask information may be solid black.
